want to set background with xsetroot

Hi Guys..

I would like to setup some scripts that set my X background upon
different events (a disk is full, etc.) using xsetroot.

However, when I leave a workspace, and return to it, the background
set with xsetroot is gone.

Is there a way to configure ctwm to leave to background alone?
