could CTWM cause the X server to rack up cycles?

Hi,

I've been using CTWM for a while now (v3.5) on an SGI
Indy. Because there are other powerhorses in the department, I tend to
run just Netscape and a bunch of xterms with rlogins to other machines
locally. The machine has 160M worth of memory and about 300M worth of
swap.

I notice that it still tends to swap when I shift workspaces to a
great degree; Netscape often seems to get swapped out, and switching
to a different workspace is often slow. I asked out SGI guy, and he
noticed that the X server on my machine had nearly 100x more CPU usage
than his. Could this be due to ctwm, or possible ctwm interactions
with Netscape? Is there some way I can test this to see what could be
causing this, without using another wm and seeing if the problem goes
away?
