getting window data on the fly

Hi,

I am trying to exract the window sizes and layout (stack order, parts
that are exposed, focus etc.) from ctwm and thought it would be a good
idea to ask for directions before jumping into the code (hoping I won't
have to dive into the X sources).

Can you give me some hints where to start?

The ctwm version used is 3.5.2.
